http://nai-usa.com/ https://www.facebook.com/NAI.USA http://instagram.com/nai_usa https://twitter.com/NAI_USA At only 15 months old David started losing his sight due to Kawasaki disease, which resulted in glaucoma. After multiple surgeries over the next few years, including damage to his optic nerve, David completely lost his vision by the time he was 6 years old. He attended Missouri school for the Blind and was introduced to track in 2005 when his athleticism was noticed by the coach. In 2012, David was at a training camp at the Olympic Training Center (OTC) in Chula Vista when one of his prayers was answered and he was offered an opportunity to reside and train full-time at the center under Coach Joaquim Cruz. After moving to the OTC in May, David shocked many when he and his guide runner, Roland Slade, earned two Gold medals (100m, 200m) at the 2012 US Paralympic Track & Field Trials. David’s 100m run broke the American record and placed him at 5th in the world. David went on to represent the US at the 2012 Paralympics games in London. Upon returning from London, Coach Cruz encouraged David to train for the 400m, which he did, and less than a year later he earned a Silver medal from the 2013 Para-World Championships in Lyon, France. David’s slogan is “Running4HISGlory” and considers himself a visionary athlete who is more dedicated than ever to achieve future gold medals. “I am driven, I know where I’m going, and know what I need to do to get there.”
